About the Chorus

History
Originally formed in 1992, the San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus is a parent driven, non-profit choral program for children from grades three through twelve. We believe that involvement in a musical program develops self-esteem, self-discipline, and individual creativity, which is so important in the development of academic and personal skills.

Our Mission
The mission of the San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus is to “promote musical excellence in children and provide children and youth of diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds in the San Fernando Valley with the opportunity for artistic and personal growth through superior choral instruction, community outreach, and choral music performance.”

What We Do
The SFVYC presents an educational and enriching experience for the young singers as well as their audiences. Our music education includes singing, moving, listening, creating and performing. Additionally, community outreach is a component of our curriculum, bringing choral music to schools, senior citizen centers, churches and temples. The Chorus also offers Art & Song summer day camp, in partnership with Canoga Park Youth Arts Center. Tuition remains as low as possible, dependent upon outside support. At our rehearsals the children learn sight singing, music theory, voice control, and performance poise. The repertoire ranges from Renaissance to Broadway and appeals to a broad audience of both old and young.

The chorus rehearses weekly in Canoga Park. For more information please call Sue Saper, administrator, at 818 212 9356, or e-mail: info[at]valleyyouthchorus.org -Contact-
